Therapeutic Service

our services

Sprucewood aims to provide a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment to help children begin the process of learning how to self-regulate and stabilize their behaviour. This important process begins during the referral and pre-admission stage, through careful risk assessment and consultation with the placing authorities and subsequent matching of children placed in the home together. This is the first indirect attempt to help a child feel safe and secure in their placement.

On admission each child is assessed by our multidisciplinary team over the initial six week period culminating in a unique Intervention Plan, agreed with the placing social work department and any external professionals involved in the child’s care plan. The Intervention Plan will be individually tailored to meet each child’s specific needs and will have clear aims and objectives in line with the child’s overall care plan. This plan is monitored and formally reviewed by the team and the child’s allocated social worker every month, ensuring a responsive and cohesive approach to supporting the child, an integral part of our service provision.  In light of the need to adequately plan and prepare for each child’s admission Sprucewood does not accept emergency admissions.
