As an independent child care organisation, established in 2021, Sprucewood attempts to meet the needs of young children who have experienced complex developmental trauma, have associated attachment difficulties and emotional/behavioural challenges by providing them with an exceptional, responsive and trauma informed residential care experience and the intensive therapeutic support they need to not only survive and but thrive.

Our mission is to provide safe, versatile, multidimensional, therapeutic residential care for children who have experienced adversity by embracing an integrated, synergetic approach to support the whole child within a therapeutically sensitive residential environment.

Our experience has taught us that positive outcomes can be achieved by providing bespoke, trauma responsive and neuro-sequentially sensitive child centred care packages for children aged 6-13 years in a small home environment with maximum dual occupancy levels. We understand the importance of having a consistent staff team specifically trained to respond to their individual needs using evidence based interventions.

To enable and support this we embrace a reflective ethos and pursue continuous professional development for staff. We recognise the importance of family networks and are committed to working collaboratively with those involved in the child’s life and their support network, in this endeavour we provide transition training and coaching for identified support networks with the aim of successfully transitioning children from residential care to a safe, prepared and responsive familial setting as soon as possible.
