A child centred ethos runs inherently through all services provided by Sprucewood. Each child remains at the centre of all planning and are actively encouraged to engage in creating their own ‘person centred Maps’ throughout their placement. Keyworkers coordinate and facilitate Map Meetings, hosted by the child and attended by key staff in Sprucewood. These are child friendly forums, sensitive to the child’s age, understanding and developmental needs, where the child is creatively invited to share their wishes, feelings, desires and goals with regard to their time in Spruce Cottage. Keyworkers ensure that the outcomes from these meetings are shared with the larger team and that the child’s voice is heard and acted upon appropriately, with feedback given. This process promotes a sense of belonging and importance, boosting confidence and self-esteem.
